A study by the Halifax has shown that every day in the United Kingdom there are eighty-four fires that start in the kitchen, and almost ninety percent of these are caused by carelessness. This figure is the recorded one, where the fire brigade had to be called out so the actual number will be even higher than this.
It is wonderful to see iconic and inspirational chefs leading a food revolution in the homes of regular people, but those being inspired just need to think a little bit more before they dive in. With the typical kitchen fire causing over GBP9,000 worth of damage it certainly makes financial sense to make sure all safety precautions are being taken.
