Do Something About Empty Houses Says Halifax

In the UK today there are many houses standing empty, even though there is an apparent shortage of property. The Halifax are asking that something be done about it.

A recent Halifax survey found that almost two thirds of people thought the government should do more about these empty properties, creating more places for people to live, a better overall environment and potentially regenerating areas that had suffered with a large number of empty properties causing social issues.

The Halifax have asked the government to extend the current council tax and VAT discounts in order to make the renovation of a property a more financially viable option. Such simple measures could transform whole areas of the country and also help protect some of the Greenfield sites that have been under threat from developers.
