A recently completed study by Saga Insurance has shown that around 25 percent of people hurt themselves whilst doing DIY in the home. It is thought that as the jobs attempted become more and more difficult so the number of injuries is rising.
It may also explain why there are less people doing it now than there used to be. Over half of homeowners now get someone else to do these DIY jobs rather than attempt them themselves. The Saga Insurance survey found that it was partners who were turned to first, with almost thirty percent of homeowners seeking help from their loved one first.
The view of Saga Insurance is that anyone contemplating DIY should check their home insurance details first to ensure accidental damage is included in the policy, and if not to get in touch with their insurer to get it added.
